Report in Spain suggest that Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are ready to make their move for Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez.
The 27-year-old forward has recently grabbed the headlines following his wonderful performance against England in the World Cup. The Liverpool striker scored two goals on the night to virtually knockout the Three Lions from the tournament, which was confirmed following Costa Rica’s win over Italy.
The Uruguayan international came into this tournament on the back of a fantastic season with Liverpool where he scored 31 goals in the 33 starts in the league. His consistent performance has sparked interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, according to reports in Spain. This comes after Liverpool faced similar interest from Arsenal in the last transfer window and managed to hold on to the striker after a summer of speculations and rumours.
The former Ajax forward signed a new contract with the Merseyside club in December last year and Liverpool inserted a massive release clause in the deal. Reports about the worth of that release clause have varied from source to source. According to Dailymail the clause is of £100m, while Express believes it to be around £68m. Both nearly all the sources agree that the release clause is much lower for clubs outside England.
The latest report about Barcelona and Real Madrid’s interest in Suarez was started by Spanish media, MundoDeportivo in particular. According to the news agency, both Barcelona and Real Madrid are lining up a bid of around £70m for the Uruguayan international. Liverpool have come to terms with the fact that they will find it hard to hold onto their prized asset beyond this summer and have already prepared for his departure with the acquisition of Rickie Lambert from Southampton.
The Reds are expected to have a busy summer and have already being linked with the likes of Adam Lallana, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alexis Sanchez. Barcelona are interested in using Liverpool’s interest on the Chilean winger and could use offer Sanchez as a part of a player plus cash bid for Suarez; Real Madrid also have an array of players to offer in exchange for the Liverpool striker.
MundoDeportivo also reported that Suarez is also keen to leave England due to his relationship with the English media and isn’t interested in playing for any other English club. According to Dailymail, Suarez would prefer a move to Real Madrid over Barcelona, although Spanish media are reporting the fact that his wife’s parents live in Catulunya and his daughter was born in that city, will affect his decision to join Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Skybet has slashed odds on Saurez’s departure from Anfield and Head of Football Trading Paul Wiggins has said that both Barcelona and Real Madrid are 9/4 to sign the striker.
“We’ve seen a sudden surge in bets on Suarez’s next club, with Barcelona in particular attracting backing.
“While we’re assuming these bets are a result of the media speculation as opposed to any inside knowledge, the volume of interest has forced us to cut his price on leaving from 2/1 to 5/6, with both Barcelona and Real Madrid 9/4 to get a deal done.” – Wiggins said.
