The Sevilla captain has various offers on the table, claims the player’s father

Long term Liverpool target has offers from the three Spanish giants on the table, his father said. The midfielder has a release clause of £32.5million and is subject to the a three-way tussle between Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Rakitic captained the Sevilla side which recently emerged winners of the Europa League, after a grueling final against Benfica, which they won on penalties, and the Croatian playmaker was an imperative part of the side and the victory. The Croatia international also scored 12 goals in 34 league appearances last term,

Rakitic’s father confirmed the interest from Spain’s three biggest sides but also said Sevilla were trying to keep their star midfielder.

Liverpool and Manchester United both hold interest in the 26 year old for a considerable time now and both were told in December to pay the entire release clause if they wanted the player.

“Ivan Rakitic has a year and a half of his contract remaining. I have absolutely no doubts that we’re going to reach an agreement with him. If anyone else is in a rush to have Rakitic, his clause is €40m (£33m) and we’ll leave it at that.” Sevilla President Jose Castro Castro said speaking at a Sevilla Supporters’ Club meeting.

However, because of Rakitic’s contract situation the clubs could purchase him for between £20-25m.

The father of the Sevilla star claimed that the the top three Liga clubs in 2013-14 want to sign his son, but also hinted that Barcelona would be the preferred destination.

“His brother Dejan, who is his agent, has offers on the table from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético. But we’ll decide after the World Cup.” Luka Rakitic told Croatian newspaper Jutarnji

“However, the conditions on offer are not better than those he has at Sevilla. He is a God there.”

His father also talked about which club his son might prefer. “Barcelona are still Barcelona,” he added.

Luis Enrique is a known admirer of the player and it has been reported that the Catalan club are looking to rope in the player within their ranks. Barcelona finished trophy-less last season and new boss Enrique wants to restore Barca’s pride by securing silverware this season and has hinted at somewhat revamping the side, with a host of players who are reportedly going to be sold, and a large number of new arrivals. The Spanish giants have already told Cesc Fabregas that he is surplus to their requirements and the Spain star is likely to rejoin the the Premier League after the World Cup. Rakitic would be a direct replacement for Fabregas in the squad.

Meanwhile, Premier League clubs Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea (to an extent) have consistently been linked with the player. The Reds, especially, have their sights set on the player for a considerable time and were thought to have approached the La Liga club in the previous two transfer windows for their captain. The interest is still there and they would have to act fast to secure a move for the Croatian international.
