The Arsenal defender has been struggling with an Achilles problem since the beginning of the season and has been released from the French squad ahead of their game against Portugal this Saturday.
Laurent Koscielny is the latest injury concern for Arsene Wenger after he left the national camp of France to return to Arsenal for treatment on Achilles problem which has been bothering him since the start of the campaign. Although it is a precautionary step and reports suggest the knock is minor, still this news comes as another headache for Arsenal in a period when injuries are piling up at an alarming rate.
Mesut Ozil was released from Germany’s national squad after scans revealed knee ligament damage which is expected to keep him out for the remainder of 2014. Arsenal expect the injury to be a minor knock and are hoping that the defender will be back for their next game against Hull City in the Barclays Premier League. France are not involved in any qualifying games which means Koscielny will be missing the friendly games against Armenia and Portugal.
Wenger will be anxious that this minor problem does not turn out into anything significant as the defensive department is already weakened after the injury to Mathieu Debuchy. The French right-back is out for three months after an ankle operation. English teenager and summer signing Calum Chambers has been promoted to a first-team regular. Chambers has been impressive so far as a right back but without Koscielny he has to play in the centre although he is suspended for the game against Hull City. That leaves Arsene Wenger with only Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, youngster Hector Bellerin, Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal as his possible defensive options. David Ospina, Mikel Arteta, Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Yaya Sanogo complete the lengthy injury list for Arsenal at this moment.
AS Roma defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been called up to the France squad as replacement for the injured Laurent Koscielny by Didier Deschamps. The 25-year-old will join his international teammates ahead of their games against Portugal and Armenia. Yanga-Mbiwa has been impressive so far this season for the Italian club after injuries to both Leandro Castan and Davide Astori forced Rudi Garcia to field the Frenchman who is on loan from Newcastle United. He has reportedly done enough with Roma to have them enter into talks to sign him outright from the English club before the deadline set next summer.
