Sami Khedira has revealed that he intends to stay at Real Madrid and sees no reason to leave the club in January.

Germany international Sami Khedira was extensively linked with a summer move away from Real Madrid with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United tipped to be interested in the holding midfielder. However, a move failed to materialize and Khedira stayed put at Real Madrid. The midfielder has provided great fodder for many rumour mills linking him with a possible move to the Premier League club. Despite the regular links of a Real Madrid exit, Khedira has revealed that he has no intentions of leaving the club in January.

“Right now, I cannot see any reason why I would leave the club this winter,” he told  Germany’s Kicker magazine.

“Real Madrid is a great club to be at. This club has a place in my heart and there is absolutely no reason for me to say that I want to or have to leave.

“I get the feeling I am still wanted (by coach Carlo Ancelotti).”

Khedira is in the final year of his contract at Real Madrid with no indications of a new deal materializing any time soon. Nevertheless, Ancelotti had recently said that the player might stay and sign a new deal with the club.

“There are indications that he might leave, but I think he wants to stay here,” Ancelotti told Primer Toque.

“We have until June to reach an agreement with him.”

Ancelotti’s words have proved to be true as the midfielder also conceded that there is a possibility of him signing a new contract for Real Madrid.

“My agent is presently in talks with Real Madrid”, he revealed when asked about his possible contract renewal.

The news comes as a blow for Arsenal as it was believed that the German was bound to join the Premier League club either in January or at the end of the season. Arsenal, who are struggling with injury issues in the midfield, were tipped to be the ideal destination for Khedira.

World Cup winner Khedira left Stuttgart to join Real Madrid in 2010 after Los Blancos paid €14 million for the German. The defensive midfielder played a pivotal role under Jose Mourinho’s management as he partnered Xabi Alonso in the midfield. After Mourinho was replace with current manager Ancelotti, Khedira suffered a serious knee injury which saw him missing majority of the 2013-14 season. The 27-year-old recovered from tearing his knee ligaments to play a part in Real Madrid’s 10th Champions League victory.

The immense success of the combination of midfield duo Kroos and Modric has resulted in Khedira making limited appearances for Real Madrid this season. Khedira has made just four Liga appearances, all from the bench this season.
