The Hard Tackle understands that Ranbir Kapoor co-owned, Mumbai Based Franchisee, Mumbai City FC are set to play UAE League Champions Al Ahli. Al Ahli are the reigning champions of UAE, having won the 2013-14 league comfortably with a gap of 16 points ahead of second placed Al Wahda. They are currently placed seventh in the league table after two rounds of matches.
The date of the tie is however still in the shadows, as Mumbai City FC are expected to visit UAE around the second week of October, after which they will head straight to Kolkata and play their opening fixture against Atletico de Kolkata on the 12th of October.
Mumbai City who boast a hefty looking side, with the inclusion of players such as Nicolas Anelka have already annihilated Union Bank with a comfortable 7-0 win, in their one and only friendly. Expected to play Air India on the 25th of September, Mumbai City have perhaps started to develop their core.
Manager Peter Reid is expected to see the team’s training regime soon, after his delayed arrival. Flaunting serious talent mixed with experience and class, Mumbai City FC are perhaps one of the teams-to-beat this season.
