After Chennaiyin FC tasted its first defeat in three games, coach Marco Materazzi was left to rue his side’s approach. Although Chennaiyin FC boasted a mean defense coming into this fixture, with the likes of Mikael Silvestre and Gourmangi Singh patrolling the final third, the visitors still conceded four goals. The First coming in the form of a Wim Raymaekers volley, in the first minute itself.
“Maybe I like my team to score first, but this is football, you never know” said Materazzi.
Chennaiyin FC are often regarded as having a defensive approach to the game.
“People might think we are defensive but we had plenty of attacking players on the pitch like Elano, Balwant Singh, Bruno Pelissari and later John Mendoza and Jayesh Rane. So there was plenty of attacking force but it just didn’t happen for us today.” contradicted Chennai’s coach, Marco Materazzi.
“Sometimes, when you lose after 4-1 it seems all bad but we played well in the second half and at 2-1 we were the better side. However, the penalty killed the game,” he added, while talking to the ISL Media Team.
Chennaiyin FC, displayed signs of being complacent, as the gaffer regularly shifted tactics, in order to find the net, whist conceding via counters.
“We conceded a penalty and the fourth goal, the same way, by counter attacks’
“We thoughts we were the best, but we are not. Congratulations to Delhi for winning this”, the ex-InterMilan legend concluded
With its first defeat in three games, Chennaiyin FC still sit a comfortable third, with six points.
