With Chennaiyin FC winning the first South Indian Derby, admist a high tempo game, coach Marco Materazzi looked more than impressed with his squad, which has now amassed six points, and comfortably sit in the second spot, behind leaders Atletico de Kolkata.
Running high on fan support, the Italian commented on the amazing support, in their first home game, he said “I think they did a lot for us,” the World Cup-winner said.
He went onto add that the fans brought out the best in his players. “We did a lot for them, too, on the pitch. We put in our heart in the second half.”
Already justifying his tactical acumen by nullifying Robert Pires, in their inaugural encounter, Materazzi played tactically again, as he introduced Dhanchandra Singh in place of the injured Abhishek Das.
““We need a change in strategy because we played Abhishek in the pitch,We played 3-4-1-2 and when Abhishek came out we had to change that but the boys played well.” he said, while talking to the ISL Media Team
A game which featured some heated battles, also had a penalty kick, which was slotted home comfortably by Chennai’s marquee player Elano.
“In my capacity I did what I had to for the team, to win the game for the team and the team won,” stated Elano, in the press conference.
A tight encounter was decided by a Bernard Mendy stunner, in the 64th minute, as Chennaiyin would run out eventual winners 2-1. Coach Materazzi, was highly impressed with his finish, he said ““In India, or anywhere in the world, it was a fantastic goal!”
Chennaiyin FC with this win, has gradually announced themselves as a major title contender and would look to gain three points, in their encounter against Delhi Dynamos, next.
