Chennaiyin FC led by former Inter Milan legend Marco Materazzi will clash swords with NorthEast United, led by Ricki Herbert in a must win encounter for the NorthEast franchisee. The highlanders currently reel at the bottom of the Super League table with ten points and a defeat against Delhi Dynamos, last time around did not do any justice to their ambitions.
“We are going to play an exciting, attacking brand of football. We will come hard at Chennaiyin FC and I do not see why, in this intensely competitive league, we cannot come away with all three points.” said Ricki Herbert.
“We have thirty-odd thousand fans who turn up every game to support us. We cannot disappoint them. You shall not be let down by the game we will play tomorrow. If we take it one game at a time, we have a chance.”
NorthEast United have lacked clinical goal scoring abilities and have often miscued their chances wide. Ricki Herbert seems unfazed by all that and focuses on their own style of play, but agrees to worries.
““I think we are a few players short in some departments. It’s all about tweaking some areas of the team, which I think can happen next season. Right now, we are focussed on providing the young boys with as much exposure as possible so that they can go on and put it to good use.”
“If we can convert even a small percentage of the chances that we create, I believe that we can do well. It is imperative that the boys should learn why we are in this position and not repeat the mistakes.”
Meanwhile, Chennaiyin FC’s Marco Materazzi believes that his side still has not qualified for the next round, even though leading the pack with nineteen points.
” “Tomorrow is another important game for us because according to me, we still need five or six points to reach the semis and if we win against NorthEast United FC, there is a 70% chance of us being in the semi-finals. We need to focus on the next game.””
““I am 41 years old now. Of course, I love to play football but I take decisions based on the team’s welfare. If I feel I am needed on the pitch, I play.” he added.
