Kerala Blasters entertain league leaders Chennaiyin FC in match 45 of the Indian Super League. Although both sides are coming on the back of 3-0 defeats, both would be looking to grab all three points and uplift their spirits. Kerala Blasters sit at fourth with fifteen points, while Chennaiyin FC top the table with nineteen.
“I know it is going to be tough for us tomorrow and I am sure that we are going to need the 50,000 plus fans behind us and we must make them our 12th man. They are very important to us,” said Kerala’s gaffer David James.
“Quite simply, it was the set piece that changed the game. I wasn’t overly happy with our performance in the first half but in the first 20 minutes of the second half we were ok. But then, there is a set play, an unmarked man, and we are a goal down. We met a side in Goa who are in good form and we paid the price for it. I have spoken to the team and we know what we have to do with regards to tomorrow,” he added.
“I watched their game against Mumbai and they (Mumbai) are not a bad team, in fact, they are a good team. They (Chennai) lost the game in a similar 20 minute spell which is the trend in the ISL where teams are leaking in goals in 20 minute spells of the game,”
Meanwhile, Chennaiyin FC already miss Elano and Stiven Mendoza. Marco Materazzi however believes that his team could cope well, without the absence of these two players.
“The morale of the team is the same as always, we are at the top of the table and we have 19 points at the moment and we have three games to go. We definitely have a chance to go into the next round. We don’t have any new injuries but even if you take Elano and Stiven Mendoza out of the game, it doesn’t matter because we have players that can play and fill in the positions that we need them to,” Materazzi said at the pre-match press conference.
