After defeating NorthEast United 1-0, Atletico de Kolkata have solidified their position as league leaders, sitting comfortably with sixteen points in nine games. Although, the game was equally distributed and chances were equally shared, Atletico de Kolkata scored the elusive and deficit goal in the 51st minute courtsey of a Luis Garcia header.

The franchisee is not counting its chickens before they hatch, but are focused on the next game.

“Our target is to win our next match,Obviously, our main target is to reach the final, but we will try to win our next game first, that will probably take us closer to the points we target.” said Luis Garcia

“When you score goals, that makes you more confident, but we have been playing good football and creating lots of chances. At the end of the day that is most important,”

Although Atletico de Kolkata where playing attacking football in the first half, the hosts failed to capitalize on their chances. Skipper Luis Garcia explain the leading to their opening goal.

“We were playing attacking football in the first half but were falling short in front of goal. The coach told us at half-time to push forward more, so we started pushing higher up and the goal came.” he explained

Meanwhile, NorthEast United’s gaffer Ricki Herbert slapped the goal as unlucky, as the Highlanders succumbed to a defeat. NorthEast United have slipped to sixth and have ten points.

“Tonight, unfortunately, the goal that we gave away was a sloppy goal, a giveaway, and I didn’t really see Kolkata coming and scoring any,” Herbert said

Although travels might have taken a toll on Herbert’s side, the Kiwi believes that with the format of the competition all teams could face the simmilar problem.

“The format of the competition is always going to be challenging for all the franchises,”
