Delhi Dynamos featured in a 2-1 win against NorthEast United. A sensational Gusatavo dos Santos goal led Delhi to take an early lead, while minutes later Koke was presented with a glorious opportunity to bring NorthEast level, but he failed to find the net. In a shaky performance Delhi managed to grab on to all three points and coach Harm van Veldhoven praised his change in strategy for this performance.

“I knew that we had possibilities at the back defending,” Van Veldhoven said. “I saw possibilities (to counter). I know that NorthEast like to drive at the defence.”

“You need to maintain your organisation. We said that we’ll play the game in a 4-4-1 formation,Marmentini (Dos Santos) was higher up the pitch, Hans Mulder and (Bruno) Arias were playing a little out of defence, and Francis (Fernandes) was playing in a defensive midfield position at times.” he revealed.

“I know that Francis is one of the fastest strikers I have, After we lost the game at home I said okay, this is the best solution. And it’s good to give a player who’s worked so hard such confidence.”

Meanwhile Delhi’s robust midfielder Hans Mulder agrees that if they lost against NorthEast, it could have been the end for Delhi’s Super League ambitions. Talking to ISL Media Team Hans said “Very important, I think if we had lost today it would have been over for us. We get confidence from these three points and I cannot wait to play the next game. We want to sustain the same energy we had today and create more chances.”

NorthEast United’s gaffer Ricki Herbet however, rued his sides missed opportunities to convert brilliant attacking plays into goals. The Kiwi said ““I am at a loss for words. I do not know how to explain my team’s performance. We had chance after chance after chance and inexplicably, we missed them.””

“I’ll make no excuses whatsoever. We are absolutely dreadful in front of goal at the moment. Today, to top it all, we had some defensive lapses as well. The amount of chances that we created amazes me and we managed to miss all but one.” he added.

With this win Delhi Dyanamos amount to 10 points while uplift themselves to seventh spot. NorthEast United slip to the bottom of the Super League table.
