Chennaiyin FC edged Kerala Blasters 1-0, courtsey of a moment of brilliance by Pellisari. In the 87th minute, a bombarding Pellisari dribbled past a hapless Kerala defense and scored with a sublime touch to beat the imposing of David James. With these three points, Chennaiyin FC distance themselves from the rest of the Super League pack and are the first team to qualify for the coveted Semi Finals. Kerala Blasters meanwhile, created chances but failed to capitalize on any, and now reel at fourth position with fifteen points. Chennaiyin FC’s manager and former Inter Milan legend Marco Materazzi was more than happy with his sides performance.

The team was very, very good!Today, when I saw them and spoke with them (the team) before the game, I told them that we are a big team and a big team never makes the mistake of losing two games in a row. So we had to win. They played really well and I am happy about the performance today.” said Materazzi

“In the first half we played high pressure for 20 minutes and we took care of them breaking forward on the counter attack. We had good concentration. Maybe in the second half, we tired a bit. It gets hard to run. But we wanted the three points, we played well, and we had a good goal. So I think we deserve the three points.”

The imposing Italian was more than happy at his sides defensive display which kept Kerala’s attackers at bay. “When you don’t get a goal the team has to play well and defend, and I think Jeje, Djemba-Djemba, Denson, Balwant, everyone did; tonight, we played well as a team. We are happy ” he added.

Although Materazzi still believes that his focus would be to win the remaining two games and take the maximum from them two games. “We have to think and see ahead. We have two games at home in front of our fans and we have to respect them because they come to support us. So we have to play well and win the remaining games!”
