The Hard Tackle understands that Chennai Titans are closing in to sign Indian Starlet Brandon Fernandes, however Sporting Clube de Goa could hijack this move and latch onto Brandon.
Fernandes, who was surprisingly over looked for the two day ISL Drafts has been inspirational recently. At 20, he is one of the most promising talents in Indian football ready to break into the European Frontier, after having trials with clubs such as Reading, Leicester City and Sunderland in England. Operating as an Attacking Midfielder, the prodigious son is waiting eagerly to joint Indian Super League,a tournament which is sure to revolutionize football in India.
Brandon Fernandes who trained at ASD Cape Town has already represented India at various age group levels most recently at the U-19 level where he played at the AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers. The fans in India had an opportunity to witness his talent in the Lusofonia games which were held last year in Goa where he was the star performer for the Goa-India team.
“My club in South Africa is in touch with me for the renewal of the contract but right now I am eyeing the Indian Super League which I feel is the best international platform to showcase my talent. However, I will keep my fingers crossed and wait for an opportune time to make the next move,” said a confident Brandon to The Times of India.
He was also included in an Indian Team training camp in Bengaluru by gaffer Wim Koevermars, but an unfortunate hip injury consequently meant him getting the axe from the Contingent.
Brandon who started his career operating as a striker, was product of the Salagaocar Academy. A striker who often dropped deep to collect the ball, Brandon was subsequently transformed into a creative midfielder when India U-13 Coach Sathevan Balan spotted his creative vision. Deployed as a playmaker ever since, Brandon went on to excel in the much acclaimed role. He would go on to represent India at U-13, U-16, U-17 and U-19 levels.
A hard-worker off the ball, if Chennai signs Brandon, then the 20 year old would evolve under the leadership of players such as Eduardo Silva and Bojan Djordjic. His inclusion also means a depth in the squad along with the talent he already has.
A Source close to The Hard Tackle believes that both Chennai and Sporting could very well penn down this deal, in a span of few days.
The Abhishek Bachchan co-owned franchisee in a brilliant move will emerge victors yet again, if they sign Brandon, one of the country’s leading talent. Also this tournament would give Brandon a platform to showcase his hidden talent and develop alongside, as a player.
