Tottenham Hotspur custodian and France captain Hugo Lloris signed a new 5-year contract at Spurs ending months of speculation about his future.
The future of outstanding players from Tottenham Hotspur has always been subject to transfer speculation. First it was Michael Carrick who moved to Manchester United, later star striker Dimitar Berbatov followed his footsteps to Old Trafford. In the last two-three seasons, Tottenham had two outstanding World Class players. First Croatian Maestro Luka Modric departed to Spanish giants Real Madrid after a protracted transfer saga and a year later Wales Winger Gareth Bale joined Los Blancos in a World record deal.
Even though Tottenham ‘Levied’ good amount of money on all these transfers, the image of a selling club was getting imprinted on the White Hart Lane based team. After a disappointing 2013-14 season, Tottenham was in a precarious position when it comes to keeping their star players. A summer of spending couldn’t help them to fill the void left by Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, and eventually Tottenham finished as the 6th best team in English Premier League.
Most of the Champions League clubs were casting their eyes on Tottenham Hotspur to bolster their squad. The likes of Paulinho, Sandro, Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris attracted the most suitors. Among them, France captain Hugo Lloris had an outstanding season behind the bars and he is regarded as one of the best sweeper keepers in World football.
Hugo Lloris had attracted the interest of Real Madrid, PSG and Monaco among other clubs, and retaining him for a longer period looked unlikely with each passing second this summer. In FIFA 2014 World Cup, France captain lead his side from the front and had amzed 3 clean sheets in 5 games enroute to their quarter final appearance. Still Hugo Lloris holds the record for most clean sheets in this world cup underlining his goal keeping and organizational capabilities.
After displacing Brad Friedel in Tottenham goal posts, Hugo Lloris had established himself as one of the best goal keepers in Premier League. Since moving to White Hart Lane from Olympic Lyon in the summer of 2012, £8 Million France Goal keeper had made 64 appearances in Premier League and 78 in total for Tottenham slowly establishing himself as the best in the business. With the interest in goal keeper mounting Tottenham offered Hugo Lloris a new contract in the summer.
Tottenham announced the contract extension of Hugo Lloris in official website today morning and Hugo Lloris shared the ambitions of the club.
“I [Hugo Lloris] spoke with the [Tottenham]Chairman and I know the Club is as ambitious as ever. It’s very important to feel at home at a club and for my family to feel well. I enjoy a great relationship with the Club and the fans. The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino is important as well. I have a good feeling with him. He is also ambitious.
Everything is clear in my head and if I’ve signed a new contract it’s because I trust the Club and I’m sure we will progress in a positive way. Last season wasn’t the season we all hoped for but we were still able to finish sixth in the league. We know where we have to improve, the Club also knows and there is a feeling and a confident connection between the Club and the players.”
France captain Hugo Lloris’s contract extension has ended months of speculation about his future and now Tottenham can rely on the safe pair of hands are there to protect their goal posts. There are speculations about skipper Michael Dawson’s departure and it is believed that Hugo Lloris is one of the leading candidates to take over the captains arm band. Knowing that a world class goal keeper is there to man their goal posts, it will be easier to attract top players especially defenders. With the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, the attitude of senior players have changed, and everyone is now eager to play for Tottenham. The contract extension of Hugo Lloris is an indication of things to come at White Hart Lane.
