FC Goa face a stern Atletico de Kolkata test at home, infront of their extravagant fans and supporters. Both teams dropped points, as Delhi Dynamos held Atletico de Kolkata to a 1-1 draw, while North East United succeeded in earning a 1-1 draw against FC Goa. Partaking in the fixture, both teams would be looking for a win, as Atletico de Kolkata with three points would distance themselves from the rest of the pack, running top leaders, while a win for the home side, would amount their first victory of the season, leading them to four point, in contention for the semi-finals berth.

Team News and Tactical Brief:

FC Goa

Although led by the mighty Frenchman, Robert Pires, FC Goa have been pretty poor in converting their chances. Dubbed as a title contender, highly due to Zico’s inclusion, the Goan Franchisee has amounted a mere point, in their two matches. Looking for Redemption, FC Goa would be searching and hoping for a win, against the league leaders.

Marshaled by Gregory Arnolin, who was also the Hero of the Match in their yester game, looks stable enough, with the inclusion of Andre Santos. Although, Santos would be playing as a Left Winger, as observed in the fixture against NorthEast United, it is certain that the Brazilian, would drop deep, cover ground, and solidify defensive duties. Although the Goan Franchisee, has showcased signs of good chemistry and brilliant link up plays, their approach lacks penetration and quality strikes. With Ranti Martins upfront, the grass looks greener on the other side, the Nigeran has been an absolute sensation, scoring 172 goals in 160 appearances for Dempo.

The Goa fan support, would be running high within the veins of the players, as the Stadium displayed signs of a 12th man, in their first home match against Chennaiyin FC. Showered with prayers and blessing, the Goan Franchisee would look to turn tables and upset the league leaders.

Probable Starting Lineup: Jan Seda, Debabrata Roy, Gregory Arnolin, Youness Bengelloun, Das, Peter Carvalho, Andre Santos, Clifford Miranda, Robert Pires, Gabriel, Ranti Martins

Formation: 4-1-4-1, with a possible switch to 4-4-2

Atletico de Kolkata

There is no denying that Sourav Ganguly’s side edged Delhi, to be the better side in their previous game. A Pavel Elias striker, stunned hosts Atletico, as they succumbed to a disappointing 1-1 draw, with an injury to marquee player Luis Garcia, who has been sensational so far, adding to their worries. Quiet Evidently, Atletico de Kolkata, may not lineup in their strongest eleven, as Luis Garcia, may or may not be match fit.

With two clean sheets and conceding a single goal, Atleico de Kolkata’s defense is the meanest and most stable defense in the League. Goalkeeper, Roy has been sensational, saving everything coming his way, while Arnab and Josemi have proven to be solid pillars. The returning Borja, will hope to influence the game, alongside Jofre, sitting comfortably as the double pivot. While, Pody and Sahni will play as the wide player, Arnal might have to step in and replace Luis Garcia. Garcia, is the fulcrum of the Atletico team, and a change in that, might lead to stocky performances. With inspirational Fikru upfront, chances are that the Ethiopian may find a nibble at goal, although service to him might be lacking due to the absence of Garcia.

While a win will more than satisfy the travelling contingent, a draw seems to be a good result.

Probable Starting Lineup: Subhasish Roy Chowdhury, Denzil Franco, Josemi, Arnab Mondal, Borja,Jofre Mateu, Baljit Sahni, Arnal Lilbert,Pody, Fikru,Saha

Formation: 4-2-3-1, with a possible switch to 4-3-3

Predictions:

FC Goa 2 – Atletico de Kolkata 1

With FC Goa running high of fan support, a win finally, will be on the cards. As a probable goal from Ranti Martins, will emerge as the deciding factor. Kolkata most probably will lack possession and a counter attack could emerge as a possible goal scoring opportunity.
