FC Barcelona are in the market for a world class striker and today’s reports in Spanish media have claimed that the Blaugrana are planning to make a sensational move for former Real Madrid man Gonzalo Higuain.
Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo has confirmed today that: “Higuain fits the profile of the kind of forward that Barca want to sign this summer but while the Argentina international is on the list, he’s not high on it. Higuain moved to Italy last summer, leaving Madrid after five-and-a-half years at the club. He cost Napoli €40m and has a contract until 2018.”
El Mundo confirms that Higuain is not on top of their wishlist. Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is the primary target of FC Barcelona coach Luis Enrique and the Argentina international is a back up plan.
Gonzalo Hiaguain, who plays at Italian Serie A side SSC Napoli, has earned the reputation as one of the most deadly strikers of the world football. He also enjoys one of the best goal scoring ratios in Europe.
FC Barcelona’s new boss Luis Enrique is reportedly not happy with the performance levels of both Alexis Sanchez and Pedro Rodriguez and wants the countryman of Messi at his disposal.
El Mundo also reports that: “It’s felt that Higuain would allow new Coach Luis Enrique to alter the team’s formation, and his relationship with Lionel Messi from the national team is also a factor. Fernando Llorente, Juventus’ former Athletic Bilbao striker, is also said to have come under consideration from La Blaugrana.”
As mentioned in many reports, FC Barcelona management has planned a complete overhaul of their squad this summer. While the likes of Carles Puyol, Victor Valdes and Jose Pinto have already left the Camp Nou; other regulars like Dani Alves, Cesc Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez and Pedro Rodriguez are also expected to move out this summer. Regular substitutes like Alex Song and Ibrahim Affelley could also see the exit door.
Luis Enrique has already secured the services of Ter Stegen, Gerard Deulefou and Rafinha Alcantara and wants to sign at least three more players this summer.
Defence is the most immediate concern and sporting director Andoni Zubizaretts is working closely with Luis Enrique to scout the world class defenders. Marquinhos of Paris Saint Germain is the most likely to arrive at Camp Nou this summer and Barcelona are willing to offer Dani Alves as part of the deal to the French side.
Meanwhile, chances of FC Barcelona signing Higuain are comparatively low at the moment but if they receive any set back in their mission of Kun Aguero, Zubizaretta is almost certain to launch a bid for ex-Real Madrid player.
