FC Barcelona are expected to announce the signing for Ivan Rakitic this week. Cesc Fabregas is also set to complete his move to Chelsea in coming days.
It seems that Ivan Rakitic will be a FC Barcelona player once he returns from the World Cup as the Blaugrana management has already agreed a fee with Sevilla’s president.
Spanish daily Marca has confirmed the news today by claiming that: “Barcelona hope to officially announce the signing of Ivan Rakitic today. Around six o’clock on Monday evening, Barcelona’s vice-president, Javier Faus and sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta left Sevilla’s Sánchez Pizjuán stadium in a club car after laying down the foundations of the transfer. The deal is all but done. Barcelona want to tie up any loose ends before Croatia’s opening World Cup game against Brazil this Thursday, and for that reason, Sevilla are negotiating hard for the best deal they can.”
Ivan Rakitic emerged as the most valuable player of Europa League. His consistently brilliant displays for Sevilla were also noticed by some of the top clubs of Europe who were vying for his signature. However, FC Barcelona has beaten the competition to sign the Croatian in the early parts of this transfer window.
New Barca boss Luis Enrique consideres Rakitic as the best attacking midfielder of Europe and made him the first priority when he took the reigns of FC Barcelona last month. And as per the request of Luis Enrique, Sporting Director Andoni Zubizaretta made his moves quickly to secure the signature of the player.
Cesc Fabregas On Verge of a Chelsea Move
It seems that the arrival of Ivan Rakitic has paved the way out for Cesc Fabregas as the midfielder has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Blues’ and will be playing at Stamford Bridge next season.
Experts in Spain have termed the strategy of FC Barcelona as the brilliant one as they will sign Ivan Rakitic for 20 million euros but sell Fabregas to Chelsea for around 45 million euros. And arguably, considering the current level of form, Rakitic is considered as a better player than Fabregas by Luis Enrique.
Meanwhile, Chelsea were in a desperate need for a creative player as they were too much dependent on Eden Hazard last season. Jose Mourinho also has money in his pockets as they have generated 50 million from the sell of David Luiz to Chelsea.
Now, after the capture of Fabregas, another priority for Jose Mourinho is to sign the world class striker. Reportedly, Chelsea have a deal in place for Atletico Madrid ace Diego Costa.
