FC Barcelona have agreed terms with SSC Napoli over a transfer of Gonzalo Higuain and the transfer could be announced after the conclusion of the World Cup.
FC Barcelona are in the market for a world class striker and they have been linked with a move for Kun Aguero of Manchester City. However, the English champions are not ready to sell their prized asset and Blaugrana were forced to look elsewhere.
Now, reports coming out of Spain have confirmed today that Barcelona are very close to signing Gonzalo Higuain. Marca has reported that: “Gonzalo Higuaín is on the verge of signing for Barça. The Catalans have agreed terms with the striker and are currently bidding to finalise an agreement with Napoli, who signed the forward for €40 million from Barcelona’s arch-rivals, Real Madrid, just last summer.
New ‘Azulgranas’ boss Luis Enrique has earmarked the Argentina number nine as his top attacking target and Barça director of football Andoni Zubizarreta has moved swiftly to try to tie up a deal.”
FC Barcelona management has decided to sell Alexis Sanchez and Pedro Rodriguez this summer and they were looking for a world class finisher to replace them. Gonzalo Higuain is a proven goal scorer for both SSC Napoli and Argentina. He also possess the vast experience of playing in La Liga as he was a key member of Real Madrid for six seasons.
It is being reported that new boss Luis Enrique wants to change the face of this Barcelona’s attack and only Neymar and Lionel Messi have a place in his plans for next season. The coach has already sold Fabregas to Chelsea and Alexis Sanchez is constantly being linked with Italian champions Juventus.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona and SSC Napoli management has yet to agree on the financial terms. Unlike other Italian teams, the financial condition of South Italian side is very sound and they are expected to demand a player plus fee deal from Blaugrana. Coach Rafa Benitez is a big admirer of Alexis Sanchez and might ask to include the Chilean in a possible deal. Another stumbling block in a possible deal could be the demands of the player.
Reportedly, FC Barcelona have yet to reach a personal agreement with Gonzalo Higuain but Sporting Director Andoni Zubizaretta is confident of luring the player away from Stadio San Paolo. The player is happy with his current status in Napoli but Lionel Messi could play a big role in convincing a player as the superstar and Gonzalo Higuain are both part of Argentina’s World Cup squad.ead more:Higuaín on brink of Barça move – MARCA.com (English version)
