Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta believes his team-mate Leo Messi is by far the best player in the world and claims FC Barcelona boast the best attacking line-up in the game.

Along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer, Lionel Messi is in contention for this years’ Ballon d’Or but Andres Iniesta has said that his FC Barcelona team-mate deserves the award more than anyone else.

Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the favorite to win Ballon d’Or for the second year in a row. But Iniesta believes that Messi will win it because he is the best.

“For me, the only candidate I see is Leo Messi,” said Iniesta. He was speaking to Spanish daily Marca. “Everyone has their opinion and they are free to express it. The Ballon d’Or is not decided by titles but by a vote of people who believe a player deserves it because they are the best. For me, the number one is Leo. Today and always.”

Iniesta also said that attacking trio of FC Barcelona is currently the best in the world. “I think we have the three best forwards. There is nothing negative to say when you’re talking about Leo Messi, ‘Ney’ and Luis.”

FC Barcelona are currently banned from making any signings in the transfer window. Their appeal against this ban was rejected on yesterday which has put a shadow of doubt over their ability to win any titles this season. And Iniesta has also admitted that it would be a “disaster” if they don’t win any trophy this season.

Iniesta said: “At the moment we’re not even contemplating ending the year without winning any titles. The squad we have has the quality to do it. The important thing is to believe in what we do, in how we do it, and keep improving to reach the team’s maximum potential.”

The FC Barcelona midfielder also praised current side of Real Madrid. “Obviously they have won a lot of titles this year, so they are rivals that are going to be battling just as we will be. All teams go through or are going through different moments during the year and we’re progressing. But there are always things to improve.”
