Thomas Vermaelen has made a troubled start to his career at FC Barcelona and Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to offer him an escape by taking him on loan for 6 months.

Thomas Vermaelen signed for FC Barcelona during the summer transfer window but he is yet to make a debut for the Catalan giants as he has continuously struggled with the injury problems since past few months. Vermaelen has just returned from an injury now but he is not expected to get a place in the starting XI of FC Barcelona as the likes of Javier Mascerano, Jeremy Mathieu and Gerard Pique are ahead of him in the pecking order.

Reports coming from Spain and England have claimed today that former club of Thomas Vermaelen, Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in bringing him back to the Premier League in the January transfer window.

Barcelona based newspaper Mundo Deportivo has claimed in its report today that: Thomas Vermaelen could return to England without his debut in an official match with the first team. The Belgian player signed from Arsenal this season, is the victim of injuries and misfortune and seems to get left behind physical problems already preceded him before coming to the Catalan capital.”

Thomas Vermaelen moved to FC Barcelona in August amidst much fanfare but his time at the Catalan capital is marked by the continuous injury troubles. On the other hand, Jeremy Mathieu, another summer acquisition, has made an encouraging start to his career at FC Barcelona and he is an undisputed starter for Luis Enrique now.

The management of FC Barcelona thinks that Thomas Vermaelen needs more playing time to become a regular starter for them and they are ready to send him on loan to another club. The Premier League duo of Arsenal and Manchester United are ready to offer FC Barcelona a loan of 6 months for Thomas Vermaelen.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking for a short term solution for his sides’ defensive troubles and he feels that Vermaelen could be a perfect addition as he has played at the Emirates Stadium for many years and he will not need much time to adjust with the playing style of the club.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal also has defensive worries of his own and he has asked the club authorities for signing of an experienced defender. And Manchester United management believes that the experience of Thomas Vermaelen would be beneficial for them in the second half of the season.
