FC Barcelona secured a comfortable 3-1 win against Ajax in their UCL group game and Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarreta believes that the Blaugrana are looking good to overcome mighty Real Madrid on Saturday.
Lionel Messi and Neymar, both were on the score sheet against Ajax while the Barca midfield also controlled the tempo of the game superbly. Now, FC Barcelona are scheduled to face arch rivals Real Madrid in much awaited El Clasico on Saturday and Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarreta feels that the Catalans are more than ready to face the Los Blancos.
“We arrive at the Clasico looking good,” Zubi said. He was speaking to Spanish newspaper AS Sports.
“We are fulfilling our tasks, our matches. We’re in a good place in the League and the Champions League. We played against one of the biggest clubs in Europe but we are one of the biggest in Europe as well.”
The four month ban of Luis Suarez ends tomorrow and the striker is available for selection. But Zubizarreta said that it is upto the coach to make the decision. “That’s the responsibility of the Coach. He will make the call,” he said.
“He’ll pick who he thinks is best out of those available. And more than Suarez, I think about the team. We understand football as a team game. We’re enjoying Neymar and other players. We have to enjoy today.
“The young players give us quality. Sandro Ramirez did very well on the counter-attack.”
FC Barcelona coach Luis Enrique was also very happy with the performance of his players but he rued the chances missed by his players in the first half.
“We didn’t close the game in the first half, when we were playing much better, but I was satisfied with what I saw on the pitch,” Luis Enrique said.
Javier Mascherano started the game in the midfielder for FC Barcelona yesterday and the coach was happy with his performance. Mascherano? He had a complete game in midfield. My job isn’t only to work with Messi and Neymar, but everyone can do better and run a little more.”
Luis Enrique also denied any suggestions that the substitutions made by him had any relations with an upcoming Clasico against Real Madrid.
“I’d do the same again because I trust my squad. I didn’t think about the Clasico against Real Madrid. Decisions were made regarding Ajax.
“We go to the Real Madrid in the best way. We’re top of the League and we want to measure ourselves against the eternal rival that Catalans have.”
