Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has been linked with a potential move to FC Barcelona and suggested today that any offer to play alongside Messi would be hugely tempting.

Argentina international Gonzalo Higuain only joined SSC Napoli from Real Madrid 12 months ago but Catalan giants are reportedly interested in signing the 26 year old as the new coach Luis Enrique plans to build the new looking Barca side this summer.

Reports coming out of Spain had claimed late on Sunday that the former Real Madrid man was wanted by FC Barcelona and amidst the ongoing rumours, Higuain himself has come forward to clarify about the interest of Blaugrana by saying that he would love to play for them.

Higuain was speaking to Efe after Argentina’s World Cup game against Bosnia where Messi scored a stunning goal to start their campaign with a win. Higuain said: “Of course. I enjoy playing alongside him for the national team. Obviously it would be an enormous pleasure, but for now I’m focused on the World Cup. I’m flattered by the interest from Barça. Any player would be.”

Hiaguin joined SSC Napoli from Real Madrid last summer where he scored 24 goals in his debut season at Stadio San Paolo.

Meanwhile, the management of SSC Napoli has issued a statement today to cancel the talk of a transfer, insisting that “rumours to the effect that Higuain could be sold to Barcelona are entirely unfounded”. However, the comments of the player himself have added a fuel to the rumours surrounding the player.

Earlier, Spanish daily Marca had confirmed the interest of FC Barcelona in the player. Marca report claimed that: “Gonzalo Higuaín is on the verge of signing for Barça. The Catalans have agreed terms with the striker and are currently bidding to finalise an agreement with Napoli, who signed the forward for €40 million from Barcelona’s arch-rivals, Real Madrid, just last summer.”

FC Barcelona management have decided to sell the duo of Pedro Rodriguez and Alexis Sanchez this summer and new boss Luis Enrique is looking for the world class alternatives as the potential replacements. Kun Aguero of Manchester City had caught the eye of Barcelona earlier but the newly crowned EPL Champions are not willing to part ways with their man.

Meanwhile, Gonzalo Higuain is not the only transfer target of Barcelona for this summer. The Catalans have planned a complete overhaul of their squad and apart from the Argentine international, the like of Marquinhos, Ilkay Gundogan, Aaron Ramsey and Juan Cudrado are also on the wish list of Andoni Zubizaretta and Luis Enrique.
