Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke has rejected the reports linking him with the like of FC Barcelona and Manchester United.

The young Spaniard enjoyed a stunning campaign at Atletico Madrid as his club won La Liga and reached the finals of Champions League. Koke was one the top performing player of this Atletico side and as expected, Europe’s top clubs, including FC Barcelona and Manchester United are vying for his signature.

Koke was speaking to Spanish daily Marca. He said: “I’m happy here: this is my home, I’ve been at Atlético since a very young age and I feel very comfortable here”.

FC Barcelona are eager to sign Koke. And when asked about their potential interest, he said: “I have a long-term contract. It’s flattering for big clubs to be interested in you, but I’m really happy here. The way I see it I am an Atlético player, the World Cup is coming up and I’m focused on the here and now, not the future”.

Atletico Madrid won the La Liga title for the first time after 18 years, they also reached the finals of Champions League this year. And obviously, many of Europe’s top clubs are ready with cheque books for their star players. However, Koke is not getting carried away and wants to remain at his boyhood club. “We had a sensational season and big clubs are in for our players. But like [club CEO] Miguel Ángel [Gil Marín] said, there is no need to sell anyone, so it’s down to which players want to stay on. They are going to try to keep the core of the team together to build an exciting future”.

Koke has been selected in a World Cup squad of Spain ahead of the likes of Isco and Jesus Navas; and he is seemingly happy with this. “I got several calls from friends when I got up this morning. I have a chance of going to the World Cup, I stayed in Madrid this week to see what would happen and I’ll be on the plane”.

“He was distressed after the final. He missed several important matches because of the injury and he wants to go to the World Cup. It’s up to the coach, though”.

Spain drop-out Navas: I was fit for Brazil

Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque elected to drop Jesus Navas from his World Cup squad because of the injury concerns.

However, former Sevilla star has confirmed that he is recovered from injuries was available for the selection.

“I am very proud to recover in time and to have fought to get to Brazil,” Navas wrote on his official Twitter handle.

“I wish my colleagues and the Coach good luck to retain the trophy.”
