Gerard Pique is no longer an undisputed starter for FC Barcelona and Premier League trio of Manchester United, Chelsea and Man City are keeping tab on the situation of the player as they believe that the Catalans could decide to sale the player if they receive lucrative offer.
Gerard Pique has struggled for form this season and he is no longer a regular starter for Luis Enrique at FC Barcelona. This current situation of Gerard Pique has not gone unnoticed in England as the trio of Manchester United, Chelsea and Man City are interested in signing the Spain international.
Gerard Pique was a substitute for FC Barcelona for their Champions League game against Ajax, which led to the speculation in Spain over the situation of player as newspaper AS raising the questions about his future at Nou Camp. Now, the reports coming from England have claimed today that Manchester United, Chelsea and Man City are interested in signing Gerard Pique in January transfer window.
The Daily Mail report claims that: “Gerard Pique was left out of the starting line-up for the second successive game amid reports that Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have submitted offers for the Barcelona defender. Inexperienced Marc Bartra was asked to partner Javier Mascherano in the centre of defence for Wednesday’s Champions League tie against Ajax.”
Defence was the biggest area of concern for FC Barcelona last season and they signed Jeremy Mathieu and Thomas Varmaelen during the summer transfer window. They both are out with an injury now but despite of their unavailability, coach Luis Enrique decided to start the game against Ajax with Marc Bartra. This move of the coach has raised many eyebrows and it is being suggested that Gerard Pique could be off-loaded in January.
Manchester United are currently the frontrunners for the signature of Gerard Pique as coach Louis van Gaal is in desperate need of a new world class defender. Gerard Pique has played for Manchester United in the past and club authorities believe that this is the right time to sign him back.
Meanwhile, Manchester United is not the only interested club in the signature of Gerard Pique. Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal are keeping tabs on the situation of the player. Man City want to add one more quality defender to their squad while Chelsea are also looking for a long term heir of John Terry.
