FC Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has said that he is responsible for the defeat against PSG.

FC Barcelona defence was brutally exposed against the attack of PSG but Enrique said that it would not be right to blame anybody but him. Marco Veratti, David Luis and Blaise Matuidi scored the goals for PSG while Messi and Neymar scored for Barcelona. Luis Enrique said that his side failed to handle the occasion properly and they were fully aware of PSG’s threat from set-pieces.

“The explanation is quite clear. We were up against a rival who is at the same level as us, and they handled the pressure better than we did. Tonight we didn’t play as well as we had hoped. We had a few clear chances at the end when we could have equalised. But I cannot say that it’s an unfair result although a draw wouldn’t have been too unfair either,” said Enrique in a post match press conference.

FC Barcelona lost the possession on many occasions and Enrique rued the mistakes made by his players. “We committed basic mistakes when conducting the ball out of our half and that was what caused the dead ball moves from which PSG scored. It was something we knew could happen. Sometimes it’s inevitable – it’s a catalogue of mistakes. It’s not easy to correct but it’s an area we are aware of.”

FC Barcelona defenders and keeper Ter Stegen made some basic mistakes in their defending but Enrique refused to blame them. He said: “I don’t usually give individual assessments of player’s performances. Defeat is down to all of us – and first in the line to blame is me. I am the coach and the responsibility is mine. The players had a good attitude tonight, it wasn’t our most productive day in terms of our finishing; we will analyze what went wrong and what we did well.”

Meanwhile, PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi, who scored a winning goal against FC Barcelona, has asked for such quality performance on a regular basis from PSG.

“We played a great game against a great team. It’s a great achievement,” Matuidi told BeIn Sport. “We showed that we can respond in the big games.

“Now, the strength of the big teams is to play at that level every weekend and we will have to do this in the championship because we have to be at the top.”
