Everton has slapped a £60m price tag on Manchester City linked Ross Barkley, who has garnered interest from Chelsea also lately. According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester City are set to sign the Englishman in January, while doubling Barkley’s wages and breaking the record transfer free for an Englishman.

Barkley was already linked to the Sky Blues last summer, but his recent contract signing has raised upped his market value. Although Everton has been reluctant to entertain any suitors for Barkely, it seems that the Blue club from Merseyside is willing to let go of him, if City are able to meet the price tag.

Meanwhile Manchester City would be more than willing to splash money and put an end to their problems, which has led the ‘other side’ from Manchester to slip in the Premier League and in the Champions League.

Manchester City stand third in the Premier League and were held by a lowly Queens Park Rangers side, in a 2-2 draw which opened a portal to all sorts of rumors, ranging from Yaya Toure’s departure to Diego Simeone replacing Manuel Pellegrini.

After the International break Manchester City face an in-from Swansea City, with the penultimate trip to Bayern Munich days later. Although City might look weary at this point, the Champions would look to energise their squad come the January transfer window.

Ross Barkley who has a highly versatile player could be one of many City acquisitions, as the Sky Blues would look to strengthen their squad. The 20 year old who has highly impressed fans and critics alike recently, is able to play as a Winger, Central Midfielder, Creative Midfielder and even as a Holding Midfielder.

Moreover, Barkley holds great dribbling, balance and vision. He has been commonly described as being similar to a young Frank Lampard by many journalists, pundits and fans

Although there could be a twist in the tale, as Chelsea would look to ward off interest by Manchester City and sign the 20 year old.

The London based club signed Willian when he was linked to Tottenham Hotspurs, as a move to prevent their local rivals from strengthening their contingent . Chelsea could very well spoil this party also, but it seems that even if Chelsea sign Barkley, he could be a blessing for the Blues, as Barkley could easily slot in for Oscar or even Ramires.

Still, Manchester City remains favorites to acquire the services of Ross Barkley, beating Chelsea in the process and strengthening their ailing squad.

Ross Barkley could be one piece of the puzzle, as the Manchester City side has looked already weak and a mere shadow of its former self.

City take on Swansea after the International break while Chelsea entertain Westbromich Albion in the Stamford Bridge.
