Everton manager Roberto Martinez is fairly confident about signing Chelsea FC striker Romelu Lukaku permanently this summer.
Romelu Lukaku’s future at Stamford Bridge has come under a lot of speculations following the arrival of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba in this transfer window. The Belgium international is being monitored by a host of clubs in Europe, but Everton are confident of signing the striker permanently this summer.
Romelu Lukaku’s future at Stamford Bridge has come under increased speculation in this transfer window. The Belgium international enjoyed another wonderful season on loan from Chelsea, this time with Everton as he amassed 15 goals and 6 assists in 29 starts. But despite managing to outperform every other striker the London club have in their squad, Lukaku faces an uncertain future at Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho’s priority this summer was to sign a new striker as lack of goals from his forwards proved costly in the title race last season. The Blues have already signed Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, while Didier Drogba has re-signed on a one year contract. These new arrivals mean Lukaku will drop further down the pecking order next season, and the 21-year-old is desperate to gain regular first team action.
A host of European clubs are monitoring Lukaku’s situation at Stamford Bridge with Juventus, Wolfsburg and Real Madrid being linked with a move for him. Everton are still considered to be the favourites to sign him and Chairman Bill Kenwright has previously revealed his plans to sign Lukaku on a permanent deal.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez is also confident about landing the former Anderlecht striker and when asked by supporters in Thailand about the possible arrival of Lukaku, he said: “Of course, we’ll get him [Lukaku].”
Everton are expected to sign at least one new striker this summer and Martinez insisted that there are a lot of options in the market. The former Wigan manager is confident of getting the deal done before the transfer window closes.
“There are a lot of good strikers in England, and for sure Romelu Lukaku is one of them.
“We showed our interest, but the transfer window is open until the 31 August, so a lot of things will happen. A lot of rumours about Wolfsburg, and you’ll be one of the first to know if we have our striker.” – Martinez said.
