Father of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Erik Lamela has insisted that the Argentine is unhappy at White Hart Lane and wants a move back to Italy.

Lamela - Tottenham

Already on the move?

Erik Lamela was part of the mass arrival at White Hart Lane this season as Tottenham invested a lot of money to reshape the squad after the departure of Gareth Bale. But the side haven’t lived up to its expectations till now and Andre Villas Boas had to pay the price for it with his job. A lot of the players who have arrived this summer, haven’t lived up to their price tag as well and Erik Lamela certainly falls in that category.

The Argentine international was signed from Roma after been rated as one of the best young South American talent plying his trade in Europe at that point. Tottenham had to shell out a record transfer fee of £30million to land the 21-year-old and a lot was expected from him. But Lamela is yet to justify that price tag and has had limited opportunities as well. The former Roma midfielder has made only three starts in the Premier League so far and is yet to score a goal in the competition for Spurs. He did get his chance in the Europa League and has showed glimpses of talent in that competition.

Despite arriving at the start of this season, questions have already been raised about his future at the club. Reports have linked him with a move back to Italy and clubs like Fiorentina and Lazio are monitoring his situation in London. It was also believed that Spurs could possibly send him out on loan in this window, but Tim Sherwood is unwilling to let go of him now. Lamela agent has reportedly held talks with Inter regarding a possible loan move, but Spurs have rejected this approach. Lamela is currently out injured, and this fitness concerns hasn’t exactly helped his cause either.

Lamela’s father has now revealed in the media that the former River Plate midfielder is unhappy at Spurs and is interested in returning to Italy, although he did add that Tottenham are unwilling to let him leave.

‘Erik is not happy and wants to go back to Italy.

‘He has been linked with Lazio, but I don’t know anything about this. Could he re-join Roma? I don’t know.

Tottenham does not want him to leave in January.’ – His father told Italian media.
