As Chennaiyin FC redeemed themselves 5-1, Mikael Silvestre who proved to be a solid in the line of defense, was more than impressed about his team’s performance.
“We had to respond to our defeat in Delhi, we had some tactical adjustments, the game plan worked perfectly and it was a pitch where we could develop our football from the back.” said Mikael.
Silvestre believed that Chennai relied on long balls, and had two quick strikers in Jeje and Mendoza, to capitalize on them, “But that’s going to be our strength this season and we will rely on it,” he quipped.
“I think physically we played much better, everybody was involved more compared to the game in Delhi so it’s important for us to get a good record at home.” he added
Meanwhile, marquee played credited this win as a team effort, even though he was unstoppable through out the match, “It would have been impossible to assist them without their brilliant runs. In fact, all the players supported each other. It was a team effort!” the Brazilian said. ‘
Elano, who has now scored 5 goals, with 3 coming from free kicks, has been nothing less than deadly in the final third.
“I practice free-kicks from different positions in training so all that hard work is paying off,” he revealed.
“There is a great atmosphere in the dressing room. Everyone starting from the support staff to the foreigners and Indian players have been very supportive from day one. Also the owners are great and motivate me a lot.” the Brazilian added.
Applausing the crowd support, Elano said, “It makes me very emotional to play in front of so many fans. I try to always do the best for my team. I am delighted that we bounced back so well after the Delhi game,”
Coach Marco Materazzi also had his fare share of action, as he started to make his playing debut in the Super League.
“Yes, it was our strategy to play Materazzi because we wanted to give further protection to the back four. His physical presence and leadership helped us a lot. The other midfielders also supported him well.” explained Elano, while talking to the ISL Media Team
Chennaiyin FC are now two points adrift of leaders Atletico de Kolkata, with a game in hand, as their advantage.
