Manchester United needed something positive in this transfer window to not only improve the overall quality of the squad, but to also lift the atmosphere in the dressing room and among the fans and Juan Mata’s much talked about signing from Chelsea is expected to make that impact. David Moyes has received a lot of criticism from the fans and experts since taking over as the manager at the start of this season, but he seems determined to turn this around.

Moyes and Man United’s officials received a lot of flake flak due to the way they went about their business in the summer transfer window and missed out on most of their transfer targets. But it seems like the reigning Premier League champions are desperate to make amends for this and the former Everton boss has now insisted that the arrival of Juan Mata is only the start of, what he hopes, “many more” signings over the course of this year. He did seem unsure about their will be any more signings in this window, but Moyes is trying his best to complete few more deals before the end of this month.

“This is the first, and there will be many more to come in time. I want the quality of Juan to be the start of it.

“I don’t think we will have any more (new signings) in January – I’m still working on it and looking to do so. But hopefully it will be the first of some new signings, some new players who will arrive, more likely in the summertime.

“Undoubtedly we could all do with a bit of a lift. We have not done as well as we would have liked to do. We see this as the start, we have to look to improve and I’m going to try to bring in some new players to make that happen.

“I want to build an exciting team, I want to win and I want to give the supporters something to shout about – I’ve not done that often enough.” – The Manchester United manager said.

He is delighted at having secured the signing of someone like Mata and expressed his surprise at the fact that Chelsea agreed to this deal, something which isn’t usual in the Premier League.

“I never felt that we would get that opportunity. I wasn’t sure that Chelsea would ever sell him to us. Thankfully we got there and I am delighted he is here.

“I’m a bit surprised because it’s not something that tends to happen especially between Premier League teams. I was surprised when it happened but we have got a really exciting player, a player I’m looking forward to working with, a player I think everybody in football looked at and says he did a great job for Chelsea.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him in a red jersey and doing it for us.” – Moyes added.
