Chelsea’s Thiabut Courtois shared his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle, and dubbed them as ‘difficult’. The Belgian shotstopper has been in sensational form so far, and has successfully replaced Petr Cech. Although Chelsea were held to a goalless draw against Sunderland, Courtois believes that a point earned is better than no points at all.
‘Obviously we are disappointed but if you saw the game you’d know it could have gone either way. In the end, I wouldnt say that we are happy with a point, but one point is better than none’ said Courtois while talking to Chelsea’s official website.
‘If we find space we are really dangerous so it’s normal for teams to defend against us and I think it will continue. It’s difficult to find gaps, if you score early then you know they have to come at you and there will be more space but we couldn’t do that and it was a difficult match.
‘Sunderland were defending with 10 players behind the ball and just one striker up front. We had a lot of possession in front of goal but we couldn’t find the spaces in behind apart from on a few occasions, like with Branislav Ivanovic in the first half. After that it was more shots from distance but in the end a point isn’t that bad.’
The game marked a third clean sheet in a row for the Belgian Shot-stopper. However, Courtois believes that wins are more important for him, as compared to clean sheets.
‘We don’t have to focus on clean sheets, the most important thing is to win games,’
‘Obviously it’s nice to keep a clean sheet but I’d rather win the match 2-1. It’s good that we haven’t lost a match but we want to win rather than draw.’
‘I like to play games but it’s a little bit weird for me to play over Christmas,’ he explained. ‘In Spain we normally played until 22 December and then had seven days free, so it’s not a big difference, it’s not a problem.
Chelsea face two back to back games against Tottenham and Newcastle United over the course of less than four days. Thiabut Courtois believes that this could be an important week and a difficult two games, in Chelsea’s campaign.
‘It’s an important week with two difficult games; first a derby against Tottenham in front of our own fans and then we go away to Newcastle, which will be tough. It’s an important month and we will try to win as many games as we can.’
Chelsea are already running away with the Premier League and sit comfortably with thirty three points. They are also dubbed as the favorites to win the Premier League this time around.
