Chelsea have set their eyes on Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and set to make an offer before the start of Worls Cup.
Football website Goal.com has reported today that: “With the Blues having already negotiated a deal for Diego Costa, they will turn their attentions to the Juventus midfielder as Jose Mourinho looks to further strengthen his squad. Chelsea have made Paul Pogba their top midfield target this summer, Goal can reveal.”
French international Paul Pogba has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain in the past but now it seems that Chelsea have taken the lead in his chase.
Italian champions Juventus are reportedly keen to hold on to their star man though. The Old Lady management is ready to off load Arturo Vidal in order to generate more funds for other signings but do not want to let Paul Pogba go as coach Antonio Conte wants to build his side around him.
However, Goal reports that “Londoners are willing to use the €49 million raised by the sale of David Luiz to PSG to part-fund a bid for the former Manchester United man. Jose Mourinho has made it clear to the Chelsea hierarchy that he wants a marquee central midfielder to partner January signing Nemanja Matic next season.”
Since his departure from Manchester United two seasons ago, Pogba has established himself as one of the best midfielders of his generation. Pogba is also an integral part of French squad for this World Cup. He also played key role in Juve’s Serie A triumph this year. His excellent performances have not gone unnoticed in the Europe as the likes of Real Madrid and PSG were first set their sights on him
Now, Mourinho has decided to build his strategy around him as he is convinced that the Frenchman has the ability to control the games. Another fact which will be helping Chelsea’s cause is that the player is represented by Mino Riola. Riola enjoys excellent relationship with Mourinho and he can play a big role in luring player away.
Chelsea already have huge money in their hands after the sell of David Luiz to PSG. However, Pogba is not the only target of Chelsea for this summer. Atletico Madrid star Diego Costa and Tottenham midfielder Paulinho are also on their radar. Talks with Atletico are reportedly in advanced stage and a deal can be announced anytime soon.
Meanwhile, despite of Chelsea’s lucrative offer, Juve are unlikely to let Pogba go this season. Their key playmake, Andrea Pirlo, is already 34 and expected to announce his retirement after this season and Juve management consider Pogba as the heir of classy midfielder.
