Chelsea officials inquired about the Argentine striker during negotiation talks held over David Luiz’s transfer to PSG
The Blues have reportedly made an inquiry to Paris Saint Germain about the availability of striker Ezequiel Lavezzi. The offer is said to have been made when the two clubs met over Defender David Luiz’s transfer meeting. The striker has been on Chelsea’s radar for a long time and the West Londoners are to fortify their attack by including the Argentine striker to their side. It is believed that the West Londoners have agreed to pay around 16 million pounds for the Argentine International, who turned 29 earlier this month. Though PSG have not reverted back to this offer as yet, but they might opt to sell Lavezzi to balance their books, after signing a hefty deal for Chelsea defender David Luiz. Lavezzi, who is a part of Argentina’s world cup squad will look to concentrate on his performance in the championship before making any decisions about his future at PSG.
A former Napoli player, known for his dribbling skills and swift pace, Lavezzi enjoyed a great stint with the Italian club scoring 38 goals in 158 appearances before moving out to PSG in 2012. Though his couldn’t string together consistent performances for the French club earlier this season, his form off late has been outstanding, scoring 9 goals since January 2014 which include two Champions League goals, one each against Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea.
Lavezzi, who scored 3 goals in the last 3 matches against Chelsea, playing for Napoli and PSG, has impressed many at Stamford Bridge including coach Mourinho with his attacking gameplay and his ability to play both as a winger and forward. The Argentine may well be joining Spanish striker Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge, whose 32 million pounds deal to Chelsea is almost about to complete and the Blues are pretty confident to crack the deal before the world cup begins.
The cash influx in from David Luiz’s record 42 million pounds transfer will allow Chelsea coach to buy some reinforcements to his team. He will look to fortify his attack, which remained a prime concern this season as they were unable to score at crucial occasions. The forward line may comprise of incumbent Eden Hazard on the left flank coupled with incoming Diego Costa at center and Ezequiel Lavezzi on the right flank.
Alongwith Costa and Lavezzi. Chelsea boss is also looking to find replacements for David Luiz and Ashley Cole. And there will be a possible revampment in their defensive set-up this season, as the Blues are looking to target Filipe Luis as Cole’s replacement as Left-back and Central-defender Miranda for David Luiz.
