Jose Mourinho is all set to make a sizable bid for long-term target Ezequiel Lavezzi
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been tracking Lavezzi for over a year now and its reported that the Portuguese is finally ready to make his move. Lavezzi is currently with Argentina at the World Cup, as the tournament favorites look to get the trophy home. He is one of the more important Argentine players and just yesterday set up Lionel Messi’s decisive goal against Iran.
He is said to be open to the idea of leaving French giants Paris Saint Germain, and should Chelsea offer him the desired and lucrative deal, he would be more than happy to switch camps.
Arsenal were report to be also ready to launch a £15m bid to sign the 29 year old as Arsene Wenger wants to add further quality within his ranks and win the league this season. Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley was said to have submitted a highly positive feedback. But according to Le Sport 10, formal negotiations opened between Chelsea and PSG on Friday and a £18million transfer is believed to be in the pipelines.
Lavezzi can play anywhere in the attack- as a forward or on the wings. A player reputed to be extremely hardworking, he tends to impress spectators with his pace and dribbling. He still has two years left in his current contract with the Parisian side. He moved to the French club in 2012, after a five year stint with Serie A side Napoli.
The 29 year old scored 12 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions last season, and helped his side lift the French League Cup as well as defend their league title.
Last season, Mourinho’s strike force of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o failed to perform as well as they were expected to and much of the goal-scoring burden was on the shoulders of Eden Hazard, Oscar and co. Mourinho wants to make amends this time out as he looks to secure some silverware. Chelsea have all but confirmed the signing of Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa. They have also got Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona. It looks like the rivalry between the two clubs and the two managers is set to escalate further as Mourinho is going to sign Arsenal target Lavezzi.
Arsenal too, fell short of their title race and despite winning the FA Cup, had a very disappointing campaign, after a strong start. The Gunners only had Olivier Giroud as an established striker, and like Chelsea, more of the goal-scoring burden went on the shoulders of the midfielders and Giroud. Wenger thus, wants to add attacking options and the London club are close to be signing former City man Mario Balotelli as well as Bayern Munich star Mario Mandzukic.
