Demba Ba has completed his move from Chelsea FC to Besiktas for a fee of £4.7million.
Demba Ba’s future at Stamford Bridge came under a lot of speculations this summer and the Senegalese striker has finally completed his move from Chelsea to Besiktas.
The 29-year-old striker joined Chelsea in the January transfer window last year after enjoying a wonderful spell at Newcastle United. But the former Hoffenheim forward failed to establish himself in the Chelsea first team during his time, both due to lack of opportunities and inconsistent form.
Last season Demba Ba made only five starts in the league as Jose Mourinho preferred both Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres ahead of him. Ba did score some important goals though, most memorably against Liverpool, Swansea City and PSG in the Champions League.
Lack of goals from his strikers meant Jose Mourinho was desperate to add more options upfront this summer and the Blues have already acquired the signing of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, while Romelu Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge after another fruitful season on loan. These arrivals meant Ba has dropped further down the pecking order at the London club and he was expected to leave Chelsea in order to regain regular first team action.
“Demba Ba has today (Friday) departed Chelsea Football Club, signing for Turkish club Besiktas.” – Read an official statement released by Chelsea.
Ba also expressed his delight at completing his switch and is looking forward to play in front of the Besiktas fans.
“I’ve had a lot of positive feedback about Besiktas and Istanbul from my Senegalese friends in Turkey.
“To play in a Muslim country and in a new stadium is definitely very exciting.
“I know what my coach Slaven Bilic expects from me, and I am open to all sorts of competition.
“Since Besiktas fans like hard-working and spirited players, I will give everything I’ve got in order not to disappoint them.” – Ba said.

Besiktas president Fikret Orman is pleased to have completed this transfer within their budget as they brought down Chelsea’s initial asking price.
“Ba is a player we all believe in, we put in a lot of time and effort to complete the transfer to the best of our interests. The transfer is within our budget and we are delighted to have completed the move.” – He said.
