Chelsea FC are the favorites to land Southampton left-back Luke Shaw in what is expected to be a £20m tug of war with Manchester United.

This advantage stems from the fact that Shaw’s parents live in Raynes Park, a south-west London suburb that is just 11 miles from Chelsea’s Cobham training ground. The 18 year old is a huge Chelsea fan and this could also act in their favor.

Shaw shares the same agent management group, Stellar Group, as the Blues’ experienced left-back Ashley Cole, a player that he idolized while growing up.

“I was a massive fan of Ashley Cole. I think most people know I was a Chelsea supporter and I used to go to the games.

“For me, Ashley Cole was the best left-back in the world and, yeah, I learned a lot from watching him when I was younger. I’m sure he will help me when I’m away with England.

“Three years ago I was watching them on telly and now I will be training with world-class players like Rooney and the Liverpool players I played against. I can’t wait.

“Brazil isn’t on my mind at all. This is just an experience for me to go away and see how training is.

“But to experience the Wembley atmosphere, you know what I mean? It would be good for me.

“As an 18-year-old, it’s a dream come true for me if I get that opportunity.”

With Cole’s Chelsea contract set to expire at the end of the season, Stellar Group could have a potentially delicate situation on their hands since they will have to balance the interests of England’s left-back for the last decade and their emerging star.

Manchester United reportedly had a £20m offer for Shaw turned down by Southampton during the January transfer window and United manager David Moyes is expected to return with a second bid this summer given the fact that Patrice Evra is also out of contract at the end of the season.

However, Chelsea’s promity to Shaw’s parents’ home coupled with the fact Shaw supports the Blues could be enough to swing it in Jose Mourinho’s favour this summer.
