The tag of ‘boring’ has stuck to Chelsea FC, since Jose Mourinho’s first stint with Chelsea FC, way back in 2004. Chelsea FC then, were known for their resolute defending and often edged teams out 1-0. Due to this Chelsea FC were named ‘Chelsea 1-0 ‘, by many supporters. The second coming Jose Mourinho has perhaps brought in a vital change in the Blue’s mentality. Chelsea FC are now more attacking minded and have displayed so in the Champions League, thrashing teams in Europe with a comfortable four goal, five goal ease. The Blues are the top scorers in the Champions League group stages this season, hitting 17 goals in six matches – at an average of 2.8 goals a game. That’s more than Real Madrid, the holders and favourites, who only got 16 in a group which had teams from Switzerland and Bulgaria in it, along with Liverpool.

Now that Champions League is in its business end, Chelsea FC would be looking to go in a long way and grab their second Champions League title. Jose Mourinho himself would like to add a Champions League trophy to his Chelsea FC career. Although Chelsea FC did win the Champions League under Roberto di Matteo, the Blues were dubbed as ‘parking the bus’ , ‘lucky’ and ‘boring’ in their epic victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final of 2012. Chelsea FC then defeated Barcelona in the semi finals, by the same tactic of ‘parking the bus’. Jose Mourinho’s second coming has bolstered Chelsea FC’s dominance in Europe and in the Premier League and Mourinho would be looking to mount a serious attack on the coveted European cup.

“ I used to say that the real Champions League starts now. Barcelona are there, Real Madrid are there, Bayern are there, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Dortmund, Paris, everyone is there, so the season starts now.” said Mourinho, after the win against Sporting Lisbon.

Chelsea return to Premier League duties this weekend, against struggling Hull. It will be their first domestic match since their first defeat of the season, against Newcastle last weekend. Although Chelsea FC have looked solid in their performances in the Premier League thus far, fatigue could set in for the Blues.

Mourinho rested key players for the game against Sporting Lisbon midweek, and would look to renergise his team’s form in the Premier League with a crushing win over Hull City. Chelsea FC are already sitting top of the Premier League and though the gap between them and Manchester City was sliced to three points, following Manchester City’s 1-0 victory over Everton, Chelsea FC are still favorites to win the Premier League title.
