Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho is positive about their position in the league and believes that the players are finally performing to the best of their abilities.
Chelsea travel to the KC Stadium to face newly promoted side Hull City today as they look to keep up with Arsenal and Manchester City at the top. The Blues will have a chance to reach the top of the points table, albeit temporarily, in this early kick-off and they are heading into this game on a good run of form. Jose Mourinho’s men are on a four match winning streak and defeated Derby in their FA Cup fixture last week. In the Premier League they had few though run of games as they faced Arsenal, Swansea, Liverpool and Southampton in their last four matches, but they have managed to get positive results during this crucial period.
Their opponents Hull City are currently 10th in the league table and Steve Bruce has done a fantastic job with the Tigers. They have a fantastic record at home this season and have lost only twice at the KC stadium in the Premier League. Jose Mourinho is well aware of the challenge that awaits them in this game today.
“We have a chance to win tomorrow, it’s a very difficult match, I don’t say that because it’s a Premier League match and every match is difficult, I say that based on my analysis of Steve Bruce’s work.
“We have a chance to win and if we do that for a few hours we are top of the league, but as I keep saying, the most important thing is to secure a position in the top four which is very difficult for everyone.
“Just as important as that is to improve the team, improve the players, keep playing well and prepare the team for another period of success like Chelsea had between 2004 and 2012.” – The Chelsea manager said.
After a busy festive period Chelsea players have finally enjoyed some rest ahead of this game and Mourinho has hoped that this can reflect on their performance as well.
“It’s been very good for us, the players finally had a day off and we had three days to work. We worked tactically and tried to improve certain aspects of our game.
“It also helped with the recovery of Lampard and Ivanovic. Of course, they are not ready, but it was a week without a match, so it was a positive week for us and hopefully tomorrow we can play a good game and reflect the good work the players did.” – Mourinho added.
Mourinho also feels that the team is finally performing as a unit and this has been the main reason for their recent progress. He insisted that the experienced players and the younger talents have all been performing at their best recently.
“I think some of the oldest players are playing at a very good level, that is important, that evolution, especially for John [Terry], who last year was in a bad situation.
“You can also feel some of the young talents coming into a different dimension, people like Oscar, Eden [Hazard] andWillian, who’s just arrived.
“As a team I believe we are improving and in such a difficult league to be, after the fixtures we’ve had, in a position in the top four, after six months of work, is positive.” – He added.
