Chelsea FC goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has urged Petr Cech to remain at Stamford Bridge as he looks to learn from the Czech international.
Jose Mourinho opted to start with Thibaut Courtois in the opening match against Burnley in the Premier League and the Belgium international looks to have replaced Petr Cech as the number one in the squad this season. This has put a lot of questions over Cech’s future at Stamford Bridge with rumours linking him with a move away from the club before the end of this transfer window, but Courtois has urged the 32-year-old to extend his stay as he looks to learn for the experienced custodian.
Cech has been a regular at Chelsea since his move from Rennes in 2004. He has made 470 appearances for the Blues in the last 10 seasons at Stamford Bridge and has won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, one Champions League and one Europa League during this period. But reports suggest that the 32-year-old could be headed for exit, following the likes of Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, from the London club this summer, as he is unlikely to play second fiddle to Courtois at this point of his career.
His agent Viktor Kolar recently revealed that that they have been in contact with both PSG and Monaco, and insisted that he will also contact Barcelona and Real Madrid if Chelsea looks to sell Cech.
Belgium international Thibaut Courtois returned to Stamford Bridge this season, ending his three-year spell at Atletico Madrid. The 22-year-old has made tremendous progress during his stint in Spain and is widely considered as one of the best in the World currently. Courtois produced some stunning performances for Atletico Madrid last season as the Madrid based side went on to win the La Liga and reached the final of the Champions League.
Courtois though has urged Cech to extend his stay at the club as he looks to learn for the Czech goalkeeper.
“I want him to stay. Even if he doesn’t play he can be a lot of help to me in training,
“I can still learn from him because he has a lot of experience, he can give me good tips about the Premier League, things I might not know at the start.
“He is nice to me. We are training very well and he is still proving he is a great goalkeeper.
“For the team it is better for us to have two good goalkeepers. I don’t have a problem if he stays. Hopefully I can play well and stay in the team.” – Courtois said.
The Belgium international is pleased that the club has showed faith in him and he now wants to prove them right by performing at his best this season.
“Always when you are here you have pressure to perform because you are playing in a top team.
“There is always a pressure to win games and to be important and I am trying to do that in every game that I play.
“I came here obviously to play. I know that Petr is a great goalkeeper so there is a lot of competition, but when you come back from a successful loan you hope to play.
“Otherwise, it would maybe have been better for me to go to another team.
“It is nice that he put faith in me and it is for me now to prove his faith is right.
“I need to work hard in every training session and game to gain the confidence of my team-mates and the manager.” – The Chelsea goalkeeper added.
