The Premier League duo of Chelsea and Manchester City are poised to sign Atletico Madrid’s Koke, according to reports in Spain. Atletico Madrid’s chiefs have already dismissed  bids made by La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. Meeting the 22 year old’s release clause is the only way that Atletico would let their star player go.

Koke burst on to the scene with Atletico Madrid B, wherein he played pivotal roles and featured a staggering sixty six times for the club. After decent performances and growing through the rank, Koke was promoted to Atletico de Madrid’s senior team.

Having spent his career with Atletico, Koke is known for his exceptional passing abilities and for his penchant to unlock defenses. The 22 year old has won the 2013 European Championship with the Spanish U-21 team. He has also featured fifteen times for the Spanish National Team.

Although the final roll of the dice would depend on Koke’s consent, as to whether he is willing to leave Vicente Calderon or not, Man City would be looking to sign their man at all costs, meanwhile Chelsea could pose serious competition to the Sky Blues.

Manchester City are already struggling with a squad that looks like a shadow of its former self. Even with livewires such as Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and David Silva involved, Manchester City have only amounted a win in their last three Premier League encounters. The Sky Blues are already reeling with defensive crisis as Equalim Mangala has been caught napping almost every time. Although City still flaunt and inform Sergio Aguero, they would be looking to sign another midfielder to partner David Silva in assisting the Argentine striker.

The remedy of David Silva and Koke could be the right potion to re-energize a stuttering and ailing Manchester City squad.

Although Chelsea are not in a dire need as Manchester City to sign Koke, Jose Mourinho would be looking to add more depth and quality to his contingent. With rumors of Ramires and Andre Schurrle leaving the Blues, Mourinho could very well turn to Koke to fill in the vacated spots. As the scenario stands, Chelsea are already favorites to win the Premier League and would be hoping to pose a serious threat to the Champions League. Although Koke could be reluctant to a move away from the Vincente Calderon, the Atletico de Madrid trio of Fellipe Luis, Diego Costa and Thiabut Courtious, could very well lure the 22 year old. Chelsea could sign their man, if they meet the release clause and that is supposed to be somewhere around £48m.
