After an illustrious nineteen years career with Barcelona, club legend Carles Puyol has stated that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.

In a press conference, he made this decision public and said that he would fight till the last day of the season. “The reason I have called you here today is to tell you that at the end of the season I will no longer be an FC Barcelona player,” he mentioned.

He cited the reason of leaving the club as his injury and mentioned that his contract with the club, which would have existed for another two years, would be rescinded. “The Club knows about this and we are agreed on the matter and how it should be dealt with. We shall rescind my contract and leave it without effect for the two years that were left on it.”

“After two very serious operations, I’m finding it very hard to get back to the level I need to be at to stay here. Much more than I thought and much more than the surgeons told me. That’s why I have made this decision,” he added.

He did not forget to remind everyone that he would be there for the club for the remaining period of the season and would until the end. “I’m not going today. There are three months of the season left and anyone that knows me will know that I won’t give up and I’ll keep fighting to the end to try to improve and help the team to achieve its objectives this season.”

He also said that he would get some rest after this season comes to an end and then only would take a decision on his future. He would also be holding a press conference at the end of the season where he would highlight his career at Barcelona and would bid adieu to his teammates.

Carles Puyol joined the club in 1995 in the youth ranks and have won the La Liga six times, the UEFA Champions League three times and the Copa Del Rey twice with the club.
