Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has ruled out the possibility of signing Chelsea FC striker Fernando Torres and Arsenal FC midfielder Santi Cazorla this summer.
Both Fernando Torres and Santi Cazorla have been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid this summer as the Spanish Champions look to rebuild their squad after losing some key players. But Enrique Cerezo has ruled out a move for the duo in this transfer window.
Fernando Torres’ future came under a lot of speculation this summer following the arrival of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba, but Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has earlier ruled out the possibility of selling the Spaniard with Samuel Eto’o, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.
Reports in Spain suggested that Atletico Madrid will be keen to sign Torres having lost Costa to the London club. The Spanish champions have also been linked with a move for Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla, with the Gunners being linked with a host of attacking midfielder recently. But Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has ruled out a move for the duo.
“Many names have been mentioned, but none of those players, neither Cazorla, Callejon, Torres nor Chicharito (Hernandez) are on our agenda.
“If we sign another player, it won’t be any of them.” – Cerezo said.
Cerezo has also rubbished reports of Joao Miranda joining Chelsea. The center back was recently linked with a move to Stamford Bridge to join his former team mate Diego Costa and Felipe Luis.
“I know nothing about that at all, and if I haven’t heard about it it’s because he’s going to stay, I’m almost certain of that.” – He added.
The club president also expressed his delight at having secured the signing of Antoine Griezmann from Real Sociedad. The Frenchman has been impressive during his spell in Spain and will add more edge to the Atletico attack this season.
“Antoine is the most desired player in all of Europe, he has proved that, and he is the signing of the summer.
“He is comparable with players such as Luis Suarez. James is not because he still hasn’t had an established career.
“He (Griezmann) is a great signing for the club, and we made a great effort to sign him. Despite having many offers, he decided to join Atletico, which is a huge club.” – Cerezo said in an interview.
