Arsenal could sign another striker as Olivier Giroud injured his ankle in a game against Everton on Saturday.

Arsenal earned a hard fought draw against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday but striker Olivier Giroud suffered the injury in the dying seconds of the game after scoring Gunners’ dramatic late equaliser. Giroud is the undisputed starter of this Arsenal team and the club management is considering a move for another striker before the closure of this transfer window.

Reports coming from London have also suggested that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is considering a move for another striker to replace the Frenchman. The Telegraph report claims that: “Arsenal fear they could be forced into a late transfer window move for a striker as they wait to find out the extent of Olivier Giroud’s ankle injury. Arsenal are confident Giroud has not suffered a break, but fear he could be ruled out for a number of weeks once they have the results of a scan that the Frenchman was due to undergo today.”

Arsenal already have water thin squad and manager Arsene Wenger himself has admitted that he could sign more players during this transfer window. However, it is understood that signing central defender and holding midfielder was his priority but the injury of Giroud has forced him to alter his plans. The Giroud injury would also leave him with a selection problem for this week’s vital Champions League play-off second leg against Turkish club Besiktas.

Recent reports have linked Lukas Podolski with Italian giants Juventus. But now, it appears that Wenger will not let German leave the club. Meanwhile, there is some good news for Wenger on the injury front. Captain Mikel Arteta is recovering well and he is confident of returning from injury to face Manchester City on 13th September.

Gioud Can Score 25 Goals For Arsenal This Season: Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that Olivier Giroud is improving every season and believes he has the ability to score 25 goals this season.

“He scored 16 [in the Premier League last year] and he’s very convincing,” Wenger told the club’s official website.

“You never have to set any limitations for any player. For me, he’s improving every year and don’t rule it out that he scores 25. All of our opponents look for strikers as well and nobody finds a world-class striker available who is better than the strikers you have.”

Arsene Wenger is expected to play Yaya Sanogo as replacement of Giroud against Besiktas on Wednesday.
