Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has weighed up a bid for Tottenham target Morgan Schneiderlin and the Gunners are now the frontrunners for the signature of the midfielder.
Morgan Schneiderlin, 25, has become a key member of Southampton’s squad this season and his stellar performances for the south coast club have not gone unnoticed elsewhere as the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are interested in signing the player in winter transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has made Morgan Schneiderlin his number one transfer target for the upcoming transfer window but now, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has also set his eyes on the Frenchman as he is keen to sign the holding midfielder next month. And Tottenham Hotspur fear that the entry of Arsenal would hamper their chances of signing Morgan Schneiderlin.
The interest of Arsenal in Morgan Schneiderlin is not new but given their failure to sign the player during the summer, the management of Tottenham Hotspur believed that they can get their man in January. But the re-entry of Arsenal in chase of Morgan Schneiderlin has forced Tottenham to alter their plans as they fear that the Gunners have the ability to beat them in this transfer battle because they are playing in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, reports coming from London have also confirmed that Arsenal are now the frontrunners in chase of Morgan Schneiderlin. The Telegraph has claimed in its report today that Tottenham fear north London rivals Arsenal will gazump any new bid to sign Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. There is major concern within White Hart Lane, however, that Arsenal will bid for Schneiderlin if they are given any encouragement that the 25-year-old will be allowed to leave.
Morgan Schneiderlin was on verge of leaving Southampton in the summer as both Arsenal and Tottenham had made a concrete offer for him but the management of south coast club rejected both the offers.
However, Morgan Schneiderlin has set his heart on a move away from Southampton and he has asked the management to allow him to leave the club in winter transfer window.
Signing central defender is going to be the top priority of Arsenal in the winter transfer window but Arsene Wenger is also keen to sign a holding midfielder.
Sami Khedira of Real Madrid was earlier the favorite to join Arsenal next month but Arsene Wenger thinks that Morgan Schneiderlin, with more experience of playing in the Premier League, is better suited to the needs of the club than the German.
