Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger has labelled the loss against Liverpool FC as an accident and hopes his side can bounce back against Manchester United.
Arsenal host Manchester United at the Emirates later tonight in a highly anticipated clash as both these sides look to get back to winning ways. Both these rivals are coming into this game on the back of disappointing results in the their last game. While Arsenal suffered an embarrassing defeat at Anfield, United continued to drop points at home as they failed to beat bottom of the table side Fulham.
Arsene Wenger feels this match will provide the opportunity for this players to bounce back from that loss and he expects a response from his side. But the Frenchman insisted that he is unlikely to make drastic changes to the side which started against Liverpool due to that loss.
“Every defeat creates a difficult moment, [but] it could have been worse. After Aston Villa, nobody would have put us in the position we are in today. So we have to believe that not everything is perfect – because no, it is not. But we also have to put everything into perspective.
“After a big disappointment like that you always sit there, thinking, ‘Do I make five or six changes or do I give them a chance to show it was just an accident?’ And most of the time you give the players a chance, especially if they have done well before.
“If there is a continuity of a bad patch you have to change things, but if it is just one game, most of the time you give the players a chance to [put things right].
“It is a good opportunity to respond straight away and that is what we want to do. I can talk and talk and talk, [but] it is action that will decide that.
“This group, you would never question their professionalism. Maybe they wanted to do so well [against Liverpool] that they were a bit too cautious, I don’t know.” – The Arsenal manager said.
Wenger also labelled that shambolic performance against Liverpool as an accident and pointed out his side’s wonderful run of results prior to that fixture.
“It’s always a disappointment to lose a game. But I think it was an accident because we have been very stable defensively and we have to treat it like that.
“We’ve just come back from a 10-game unbeaten run. You cannot consider one game as the trend or the pattern of our season. It’s an accident, not a welcome [one] of course, a very disappointing one but a successful season is decided by how you respond to that.
“We tend always to forget how good we are when we are not successful. It’s important that we remind them [the team] we have done very well until now and we have worked very hard to be in that position.
“I love this group of players. They deserve success and I think they will respond in a very positive way.” – Wenger added.
