Arsenal are reportedly going to launch a sensational bid for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal while Arteta is being eyed by Athletic Bilbao
Arsene Wenger heaped praise on Chile international Arturo Vidal which added fuel to reports already stating that the Gunners were launching a sensational £44m bid for the player.
Reports suggest that Arsenal were ready to break their transfer record to secure the services of the 27-year-old Juventus midfielder. The Premier League side’s current record stands at £42m, which they paid just last season to land Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.
Wenger, who is presently in Brazil as a pundit, was quoted as saying: “Vidal is one of the best midfielders in the world. He has everything. Incredible stamina, perfect timing. He’s a marathon athlete who plays football.”
Arsenal are going to face a lot of competition to land the player who was an imperative part of Juventus’s successful last season. A lot of top European clubs have been linked with the player including Premier League rivals Manchester United. However, the Red Devils have their task cut out as Vidal has stated his reluctance to play for a side not participating in the Champions League next season.
Vidal can play anywhere in the midfield and would add a lot of quality to the Arsenal side looking to compete for the title next season.
Arteta on his way back to La Liga?
Spanish club Athletic Bilbao are targeting Arsenal vice- captain Mikel Arteta. It has been reported that is the ex-Everton player is Bilbao’s top choice for the summer as they look to replace Ander Herrera, who left to join Manchester United.
It is understood that the Basque club will lodge a £3m bid in the coming weeks.
Herrera completed his move to Manchester United on Thursday for a fee believed to be in the region of £30m. His exit leaves a big void in Bilbao’s midfield and Ernesto Valverde‘s midfield ahead of the new campaign.
The 32-year-old Arteta only has a year remaining on his current contract. He could be on his way out as Arsene Wenger is himself looking to refresh and reshape his side for the next campaign. Wenger already has numerous midfielders within his ranks and selling the 32 year old is not likely to cause any sort of huge deficiency in the Gunners squad.
Arteta made 43 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal last season.
If Arteta does arrive at Atheletico, the Spanish club’s fans could face some sort of a dilemma as the San Sebastian-born player has previously represented rivals Real Sociedad.
Arteta seems like the ideal replacement for Herrera, who is also a very versatile midfielder- capable of dropping back into a more defensive role, as well as moving ahead into the more advanced position. However, Arteta is 32, and if Athletic do purchase him, it means it is only a short term solution and the Spanish club would have to address the same problem again in the future. It was reported that Arsenal were one of the clubs looking at German international Sami Khedira as someone they were targeting as Arteta’s long term replacement. A move out of the Emirates could pave way for the Real Madrid midfielder to arrive at Arsenal
