Arsene Wenger has indicated that the club will be on the lookout for something “special” in the transfer market.
Arsene Wenger, while answering questions during his press conference, regarding the transfer policy of the club in the January transfer window, insisted that like other clubs, Arsenal are also in the market to look for something ‘special’. But he also stressed on the fact that the squad already has a lot of depth, especially in the midfield.
“At the start [of the season] we gambled on Sanogo, who has been injured until now. I thought he could come in for some games and help us but of course he has not been fit at all.
“Nobody knows what will happen because Bendtner is coming back into good shape now and Podolski is back, so we have a bit more choice up front.
“We are like many clubs: certainly on alert if something special turns up and we will not turn it down, but we are not desperate because we have a big depth in our squad.
“We have shown that because our midfield for example at West Ham and at Newcastle was completely different. We changed three players and we still managed to have a very strong team.” – Wenger added.
Wenger also praised Olivier Giroud, who had to shoulder all the responsibilities in leading the attack up alone without any support. He insisted that even if Arsenal buy a striker in the transfer window, it will not be to replace the French forward.
“We have to give him credit for one thing, that physically he has coped with it until now in a remarkable way and with a fantastic combative attitude.
“If we are out there [on the market] – and I don’t know if we will do something or not – it’s not to replace Olivier Giroud – we have a great confidence in him.” – He said.
