Arsenal are interested in signing top quality attacker in January and they are closing in on FC Barcelona winger Pedro Rodriguez.
FC Barcelona have plethora of attacking talent at their disposal as the likes of Leo Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, all are ahead of Pedro Rodriguez in the pecking order. Pedro Rodriguez has struggled to get a regular playing time this season and the return of Luis Suarez is going to impact his opportunities further.
Meanwhile, reports coming from Spain and England have also confirmed the progress made by Arsenal in their pursuit of Pedro Rodriguez. Spanish website Fichajes.net and English newspaper Metro has claimed today that Arsenal are closing in on the winger.
The report of Metro claims that: “Arsenal have moved a step closer to signing Barcelona winger Pedro after he reportedly told friends he’s wiling to join the Gunners in January. Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of Pedro and allegedly opened talks with Barca over a £25million deal for the player this week.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is watching Pedro Rodriguez since past many days and he even tried to sign the Spaniard in 2013 but he failed in his attempts.
Arsenal have the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski who can operate as wingers but Arsene Wenger is not particularly happy with the performance levels of later two and he is keen on signing at least one top quality attacker in winter transfer window. And another reason for Arsenal’s eagerness in signing the goal scorer in January is the injury of Olivier Giroud.
Lukas Podoslki is continuously linked with a move away from Arsenal since past few months and Italian champions Juventus and some Bundesliga sides are interested in signing the German. Arsene Wenger is also ready to sale Podolski as this sale will free some funds for the signing of Pedro Rodriguez.
The current situation of Pedro Rodriguez at FC Barcelona is not very encouraging as the winger does not have any important role under coach Luis Enrique and he sees no future for himself at the club.
Apart from the superstar trio of Neymar, Messi and Suarez, coach Luis Enrique also has Munir El Haddadi at his disposal and Pedro Rodriguez is no longer a key member of FC Barcelona’s squad.
However, FC Barcelona are not in need of any money but any offer in the region of 25-27 million euros could tempt Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarretta to sale the player.
