Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking for a new goalkeeper after the departure of Lukas Fabianski and he has set his eyes on Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas.

Arsene Wenger has been looking for world class keeper to replace Fabianski and being aware of the current situation of Iker Casillas, he wants to take a shot on Real Madrid legend.

Spanish sports daily AS has reported that: “Wenger is on the hunt for a new goalkeeper after the departure of Lukas Fabianski to Swansea. He wants a top goalkeeper to rival first-choice Wojciech Szczesny for his starting spot between the sticks. And Wenger is eyeing World Cup winner Casillas as the man to do just that.”

Arsenal spent 128 days at the top of Premier League table last season but failed to win it because of the injuries to key playing staff and their mediocre replacements. Now, both Arsenal management and Wenger himself has decided to hire top quality players this summer in order to challenge for the EPL title in coming season. Reportedly, a transfer budget of 100 million pounds has also been sanctioned for Wenger.

AS reports that Casillas no longer enjoys his hero status at Real Madrid and after leading Real to a 10th Champions League title last month, there have been suggestions Casillas may quit the capital club to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.

When Casillas got injured in 2012, then boss Jose Mourinho signed Diego Lopez from Sevilla as his temporary replacement. But excellent displays of Lopez made him the regular starter even after the recovery of Casillas from his injury. Mourinho also politicized the issue of non-selection of Casillas and tried his best to demoralize his captain as he was not enjoying the healthy relationship with the club icon.

And when Ancelotti replaced Mourinho last summer, he also used Casillas as deputy of Lopez. Under current system of Ancelotti, Diego Lopez starts in all La Liga matches while Casillas plays all Copa Del Rey and Champions games.

However, AS reports that Casillas is not happy with his current situation and wants an exit from the club. Arsene Wenger is perfectly aware of this situation and wants to lure Casillas away from Santiago Bernabeu. Wenger also plans to use the good relations of Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil with Casillas as he has asked both of them to make initial contact with Spain captain.

Meanwhile, it is not yet clear whether Real Madrid management is ready to sell their iconic player. Casillas enjoys tremendous support of Madridistas and President Florentino Perez is well aware of this fact. And going from the outset, this deal looks less likely to happen.
