Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has gone to Brazil to watch his transfer target Mario Mandzukic play in the World Cup.
Wenger is in Sao Paulo, where Mario Mandzukic and the Croatia squad are now ahead of their World Cup opener against Brazil.
Arsenal are in the market for a world class striker and Bayern Munich ace Mario Mandzukic has made himself available to the potential suitors as he openly criticized his coach few days ago.
English daily The Telegraph has also confirmed the news today by claiming that: “Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has arrived for the World Cup in Brazil where he will narrow down his striking targets. Wenger will use his presence in Brazil as a French television pundit to try to make progress in his search for at least one new frontman.”
Arsenal are looking to sign at least one striker this summer as Olivier Giroud is the only world class frontman is there at the disposal of Wenger and the Frenchman wants to reduce his work load. Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela is also on the radar of Arsene Wenger as Arsenal have an option of buy-back for the Mexican. Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has also confirmed Wenger’s interest in the player. He said: “Arsenal have informed us that Vela would be with them next season.”
However, Arsene Wenger is a big admirer of Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic as he has the experience of playing at the highest level. Madzukic was the key member of Bayern’s treble winning squad last season.
Bayern Munich has already signed Robert Lewandowski from BVB and Mandzukic has become a second choice striker for coach Guardiola. And understandably, the player is not happy with his current situation.
This is what Mandzukic had said earlier this week about his current situation: “I met with (Bayern chairman) Karl Heinz Rummeniggebefore the cup final and told him I wanted to leave the club,”
“I’ve had a fantastic time at Bayern. It’s a great club and I never thought I’d want to leave, and especially not at this point in time. But, let’s be honest, I cannot play to my strengths under Guardiola’s style no matter how hard I try.
“I realised that after the 1-0 defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg and, that being the case, it’s best for all parties that we go our separate ways.
“Guardiola is an outstanding coach and I wish him and everyone else at the club all the best in the future.”
Meanwhile, apart from Arsenal, Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea are also interested in the signature of Mandzukic.
